What we're about

Our group is about enjoying events with friends, and as we know, strangers are friends we haven't met yet! We do dinners, movies, tours, plays, festivals, and hiking. There will be regular in-town hikes, plus cycling and weekend out-of-town hikes and day trips, including wine tours, festivals and overnighters. If you like these events, you will enjoy this group. We do carpools to save money, and nothing is done for profit. We don't mind free events, so sometimes we will post BBQs, etc put on by our politicians, even if the organizer is not attending; enjoy our tax dollars! All events will be family-friendly, and suggestions are welcome; there may be courtesy postings of events members can enjoy outside the group. In order to ensure fair access to and enjoyment of events by all members, there are a few simple rules, listed below.

If you are located outside the GTA, are listed as an organizer of a similar group, your profile photo is not you, or your profile does not show groups you belong to, we may politely decline your membership. We are not chasing a large membership, but rather people who are actually interested in meeting new friends and doing niche events together.

To join this group, you must agree to the group’s normal practices, and acknowledge the organizer's right to adjust those norms as needs arise. Please check this page occasionally to keep abreast of changes.

Normal Practices:

1) Have fun!

2) Help other members to have fun!

Other normal practices:

3) PROFILE PHOTO: Members' profile photo must be a clear facial photo of themselves, unless they have contacted an organizer to have this requirement waived. We need to be able to recognize each other at events.

4) OTHER MEMBERSHIPS: The organizers have the right to deny or revoke membership to anyone belonging to many groups, or to people who are organizers themselves. Applicants/members who have hidden their memberships may be denied or removed.

5) FEES - There are no per-event fees, but there is a per-entry fee for the setting up of yearly or part-yearly access to the group website; the fee has been waived for the balance of 2019. The fee is non-refundable if a member leaves the group for any reason or is removed for cause, including being a no-show too often, and the fee must be submitted for re-admittance to the group. The fee will be adjusted based on the number of months left in the year at the time of joining.

6) RSVPs - If not attending an event you previously signed up for, you must change your RSVP by the deadline, so as not to prevent another person from attending. If unable to change your RSVP in time, please message the event host to let them know you will not be attending, or send the message within 24 hours of the event, in order to avoid being labelled as a no-show. In order to be fair to other members, 'no-shows' will have their RSVPs removed for events where reservations are required, so that another member may attend. Please message the organizer later that day, if you did not make it to an event, to avoid misunderstandings. A member who RSVPs for an event, but does not join the group, will be considered a no-show. We want everyone to enjoy, and be reliable; for that reason, after three no-shows, a member will be removed from the group. Please see 'FEES' above for clarification.

7) STAY TOGETHER!: The purpose of a Meetup event is to stay with the group. If you need to step away from the group for a period of time (for whatever reason), or if you need to leave, you need to let the event organizer know that you’re stepping away. Communication is key and underpins the vitality of the group.

8) RESERVATIONS: There may sometimes be a requirement for advance deposits for some events, which will be returned to the member when they arrive at the event. This deposit will ensure that no one is denied a chance to attend an event by other members who do not plan to attend. Full or partial payment may be required for events with a fixed fee, such as concerts, etc where paid reservations are necessary to book space.

9) MESSAGES - Members may use the message boards to contact other members, but no promotion of businesses or religion will be allowed. Offensive, insulting language and/or harassment of other members/organizers will result in removal and possible banning of the offending member. Any member being negatively impacted by another member need only forward proof of the negative behaviour, to have the other member removed and banned from the group.

10) DECORUM - We aspire to be a welcoming and respectful group, so disrespectful behaviour at our events toward any other person, whether a member of the group or not, may result in removal or banning.
