Run Oriflamme Canyon

Hi, everyone from John Martinez RD for Oriflamme 50K

This will be my last opportunity to put together a training run for Oriflamme before the race...

Oriflamme Training Run.  Saturday, March 8.  Meet 7 a.m. at Pedro Fages Monument

Meet at Pedro Fages Monument on the east side of Sunrise Highway near mile marker 36 (this is the very northern end of Sunrise Highway, close to Highway 79 and Cuyamaca Lake).  We will proceed on the California Riding & Hiking Trail for about 1.5 miles, connect onto the race course at Mason Valley Truck Trail, then proceed down the mountain onto the desert floor.  Out and back, so distance is up to you.  We will have water stashed about 8 miles from the start.

Note: nearest restrooms are at the normal start/finish area for the race, just a couple of miles further south on Sunrise Highway.

Please let me know if you are planning on attending.  Thanks!

For those of you like me who need help with directions, here is the approximate address from Google Maps for your GPS:

15600 Sunrise Hwy Julian, CA 92036

And here are some explicit directions from the late great Jerry Schad's book Afoot & Afield:

From Highway 79 at the north end of Cuyamaca Reservoir (6 miles south of Julian), go southeast on Sunrise Highway for 1.7 miles to mile marker 36. There you'll find a monument to early Spanish explorer Pedro Fages and a large parking turnout.

I will be going out a little later if there is anyone that wants to start later. I get off of work at 730 in Coronado and will be headed straight out there from here.
