I've always wanted to schedule a day at Cedarock Park but always thought it would be too far away for much interest. Well, Mike proposed the idea and several members have expressed interest, so away we go!
Cedarock Park has two fantastic courses - one wooded like Cornwallis (only longer), and one wide open course. The way to do this during the summer is play the open course from 10-12 before it gets too hot, go get some lunch, and then play the wooded course from about 1:30 to 3:30 so we'll be in the shade during the hottest part of the day.
Carpooling is definitely an option. After you see some "yes" RSVPs, go ahead and send them a message to see if they want to set something up. To give you an idea of distance, the park is 59 miles from the Wade Avenue/I-40 interchange. 48 of those miles are on I-40 so it is a pretty easy drive of just about 1 hour from there. According to google maps, the address is
4242 R Dean Coleman Rd
Here are the directions from I-40. I know they are good because that's the way I go.
1. Take exit 145 for N Carolina 49 toward Burlington/Downtown/Liberty 0.2 mi
2. Turn left at N Carolina 49 S/Maple Ave Continue to follow N Carolina 49 S 6.0 mi
3. Turn left at Friendship Patterson Mill Rd 0.3 mi
4. Take the 1st left onto R Dean Coleman Rd 1.0 mi
This is a great chance to play two of the best (and oldest) courses in central NC. I hope to see you all there! We will be playing from the short tees.
