I've been meaning to try this place for some time. A long-time diner, LA institution type of place. Neon, counter service and open 24x7? Gotta love that! CASH ONLY! Parking across the street with validation $2.
“LA history” is served up on a plate at this “ancient” (circa 1924) Downtown diner owned by former mayor Richard Riordan that dishes out “huge portions” of “homestyle” eats to an “an amazing mix of power brokers, cops, construction workers, tourists and bums” 24 hours a day; with a “snappy staff, “bargain” pricing and a constant “line winding down the street”, regulars bet “it will outlive us all.”
There are long lines but they say they move fast. I hear that the pancakes and french toast are great but I might have to try the chicken/Southern fried steak. Haven't had that in Years! Check out the menu:
I'm doing this before the architectural tour so I have to leave by 1:30!
DID I MENTION IT WAS CASH ONLY?!
Hope to see you there!
