When you hear the name Windows Azure, you probably think of cloud services, developed in and deployed from Visual Studio. But Windows Azure is much more than that, and some of the newest services can help you get a project moving fast. In this talk, Microsoft Technical Evangelist G. Andrew Duthie will discuss two of the newer Azure offerings, Windows Azure Web Sites, and Windows Azure Mobile Services.
Windows Azure Web Sites provides the ability to provision new websites in mere minutes, and you can choose from a blank website, or from one of more than 30 templates and pre-configured web applications, from DotNetNuke to WordPress. And when the time comes to scale, you can choose to scale out, by adding instances of your website, or scale up, by moving your website to a more powerful VM.
Windows Azure Mobile Services provides app and website developers with a way to quickly create a back-end for your apps and sites that includes data storage (backed by SQL Azure), REST-based services, rich client libraries for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Windows Store, and HTML5, push notifications, authentication, and easy scaling to meet the needs of your app’s growth.
Andrew will demonstrate how quickly you can be up and running on either of these services, and will share his own personal experience in moving his own blog from inexpensive web hosting (which turned out not to be such a bargain when traffic spiked and took down his blog) to Windows Azure Web Sites
