Monthly Drupal Meetup at Stetson's

Our regular meetup is the second Monday of every month at Stetson's on U St. Join us for a round of lightning talks and plenty of socializing. This is a pretty casual event: everyone is welcome, and by no means do you need to look professional!

We don't have a set schedule, but just so you know what to expect, this is more or less how things tend to go:

  • Hang out for a bit and meet new people
  • A few quick lightning talks and any announcements
  • "Stump the expert" panel, where we discuss "how would I do this in Drupal?"-type questions
  • Quick introductions of everyone
  • More hanging out and drinks.

If you're interested in presenting a short lightning talk (5-7 minutes or so), leave a comment here or email Danielle ([masked]). Some ideas of what you could present:

  • Show off a newly-launched Drupal site
  • Demo a contrib module that you've released
  • Give a preview of changes being made in the next version of Drupal core
  • Share what you learned at a recent Drupalcon or camp
  • Talk about any Drupal-related topic as it relates to project management, design, development, accessibility, usability, etc.

We hope to see you there!

There was some trailing discussion following one of the NASA presentations last night that touched on options for dynamically loading/refreshing updated regions in cached static pages without having to clear the target page's cache; i.e. loading dynamic content via lightweight Ajax/JSON calls after the cached page loads. There are a few modules that seem to attempt to address this in Drupal 7 that may be worth evaluating:

    > Authcache -
    > Ajax Blocks -
    > Block Lazyloader -

I personally tried Authcache and Ajax Blocks a year+ ago for a heavily cached distributed site, but could not get them to meet my requirements at the time, we ultimately went a different route. Both of these modules seem to have a good amount of recent activity, so they may be worth checking out. Don't know anything about Block Lazyloader, but the linked demo implementation seems to work.

No problem, good luck with that. Also, there is a AngularJS integration module, if you're feeling adventurous :-)

Chris, that would be great. If anyone else would like to present, we'd love to have you!

Sure. I just contributed a couple modules I would love to demonstrate.

I'd like to give an overview of the architecture we're planning to use to migrate to D7 in the AWS cloud. It's the #2 busiest site at NASA so we've got some scale and security issues we need to satisfy. It's a follow-up to the Ansible automation talk Josh gave at February's meetup.

I have an earlier event but hope to make it
