50th Anniversary Timey-Wimey Count Up/Down ** First Doctor ** - VENUE 1

  • Jan 19, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We have 11 months until Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary and 11 Doctors... Hmm... What should we do? Maybe one viewing per month featuring a different Doctor? We can certainly try! And we'll see if we can make the stories ones that are significant to the history of the show and/or character while we are at it. First up for the First Doctor is "The Time Meddler", and if we told you why it is significant, it would be a spoiler for those of you who are not already familiar with it. Bring a snack or drink to share and join us as we kick off this anniversary year with some great Classic Who!

Here is a presentation about the Neo4j graph database using Doctor Who as source material. There is a slide show that is coordinated with the video, so don't play the video in full screen.

Here is a different presentation with the slides appearing inside of the video:

The Doctor Who data is part of the downloadable tutorial.

The Neo4j downloadable package has an interface that allows you to query and shows you both graphical and text results.

Some of the data comes from the work by fans at this site:

I have another question. This will be my first meetup as well. Do I have to bring anything specific with me (besides a snack or drink), or do I just show up and ring the door bell?

    January 15, 2013

    • Rob D.

We all bring some snacks to share. When you get there just ring the bell if the door isn't already open. You will just come right on in and meet everyone! It is an easy, fun group and you will love it. See you there.

Thanks again Rob! I've been looking forward to attending a meetup ever since Christmas. I was going to go to the Christmas meetup, but I've been really sick. I'm finally feeling better and can't wait for Saturday!

Can anybody tell me what the parking is like around the area?

    January 12, 2013

    • Rob D.

Seems like there is plenty of parking - just read the signs so you don't park in a resident's space. Find the home and look for nearby parking.

Thanks Rob! This is going to be my first trip to Raleigh because I'm very new to North Carolina. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to have to go far away from the meetup in order to find parking. Knowing me, I would get lost on the walk/ride back to the meetup! :)

I'm driving over from Durham. If anyone wants to carpool, I'm up for it.

I gave up my spot in the RSVP list. My mother in law passed away Saturday, and we will be busy beginning the process of settling her estate. I hope you all have a wonderful time with the First Doctor on Saturday. The story is a great one.

Alin, we are doing that with Martha's Mom's estate. She passed on December 10th. Please accept our condolences on your Mother In Law's passing. We will miss them! See you at a future Dr Who event.

We seem to be having a spike in attendance, that's for sure. 15 used to be plenty big!

This meeting filled up quick. Do all the monthly meetings fill up like this?

    January 12, 2013

    • Patrick R.

If you would like to host a meeting at your house just let one of the organizers know and they will get the word out. We normally watch classic who vids or listen to audio books at a house but we try to go to a restaurant to watch the new episodes when they startup again.

Wish I had a house lol, I am in a small apartment that would only sit about 12.

An idea-- The DVD of "Time Meddler" is available through Netflix (I don't know whether it's available through Netflix streaming). Someone could borrow Time Meddler through Netflix and host an overflow meetup that evening.
