For all new prospective members, we have changed slightly how new members are enrolled. If you are interested in joining our group of musicians and singers, we propose that you attend at least one Music Makers event at any of the locations detailed below. This is to ensure that the format and approach we take suits you. All you need to do is select 'Join Group' then go to any of the venues below and if you feel the format works for you, just let the host for that event know of your intention to join and you will be enrolled. Again, no need to select RSVP for the first event you intend going to, just turn up.
The format is that it goes in a round, each person plays whatever they want to play or sing - an old song that everyone knows, a new song they want to try out or a song they have written themselves. Sometimes we play right through - and sometimes we have to stop and start again if we forget the words... but there is no judgement and everyone listens. If you just want to listen first time - that's fine too. The talent level is hugely diverse from complete beginners to some pretty fine players. Hope you enjoy it!
Now I know it can be daunting your first visit to the group, but you wouldn't have applied to join in the first place if you weren't really interested in making music. So please do take that next step. We love to see newcomers attending!
We also have a few Communal Songs every night - a chance for everyone to get the words/music to a few songs beforehand and join in. All available at http://www.meetup.com/dubmusic/files/.
