Another public holiday! Let's visit Zeche Zollverein (Colliery Zollverein) in Essen!
It extracted 12,000 tons of utilisable coal per day from up to 1,200 metres below the surface. This miracle of rationalisation began operations in 1932. The pit was closed down in December 1986. In 2002 the former hard coal mine was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site by the UNESCO. It has developed into one of the major cultural centres of the Ruhr region. Today we can walk around the plant, visit exhibitions, galleries, design shops, restaurants etc. You will experience a unique atmosphere due to the architecture of the industrial facilities.
To cover our costs for organization we ask for a small contribution of 2,50 € per person payable in cash at the beginning of the tour.
