Pine Mountain is a 1400' hill on the Tunxis Trail in Barkhamsted, just south of the border with Hartland, CT. Indian Counsel Caves is a conglomeration of massive glacial erratics, also on the Tunxis Trail in Barkhamsted.

We will meet at the intersection of CT route 179 and Legeyt Road in Barkhamsted. There is roadside parking at this intersection for about 6 vehicles. Please carpool if possible. Across from this intersection is a yellow-gated forest road maintained by the MDC that provides foot access to the Tunxis Trail.
Using this access road, and a combination of the Tunxis Trail and Pine Mountain Road, we will hike a 6 mile loop that visits both Indian Counsel Caves and Pine Mountain.

Difficulty: Intermediate, due to intermittent slippery trail conditions due to leaves and small sections of mud.
Distance: 6 miles
Elevation Gain: About 750 ft.
Time: 3-4 hours
Pace: 2-2.5 mph

Please wear appropriate footwear (i.e. hiking boots) and clothing, insect repellent. snacks, and at least one liter of water per person. Hiking poles are recommended.
