Eating Disorders NYC Meetup Pages

Welcome to your Meet-up!

Here's a little bit about me and my approach:

About Dr. Stein: I am an Eating Disorders Specialist, and I have a Ph.D. in Public Health (Behavioral Sciences and Health Education) from UCLA, as well as a Master's in Social Work from NYU. I am also an Adjunct Professor at NYU in Social Work and at Pace University in Psychology.

Approach: I use a compassionate, integrative approach that combines psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, nutritional, and Eastern philosophy approaches to help patients deal with the here-and-now of the disorder, as well as understand the underlying causes and functions of the eating issues.

Purpose: The purpose of the Meet-up group is to create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for sharing challenges, achievements, coping techniques, and providing emotional support while dealing with your eating disorder. The ultimate goal is to free yourself from the disorder so you can have a healthier and more spontaneous relationship with food, as well as recognize and nurture other aspects of yourself that help create a sense of passion and meaning in your life.

Focus: As the group leader, I will help everyone identify their own individual risk factors for their negative eating patterns, as well as what seems to perpetuate them. Through support, guidance, information, and thoughtful journal exercises, I will help everyone come up with an individually-tailored plan to become more mindful of their own unique negative eating patterns and cope more successfully with the difficult thoughts and feelings that can impact behavior and body image.

Other Services: I also run an ongoing weekly eating disorders support group in Union Square on Monday nights and see patients privately in Union Square and on the Upper West Side. I have a few sliding fee slots available and work hard to keep my rates affordable.

Next Step: If you are interested in learning more about the weekly support group please contact me at or call (212) 222-6300.

Thank you, and look forward to meeting you!

Best wishes,
