Invigorate yourself with an extended walk up and around Edinburgh’s finest extinct volcano.
A reasonable level of fitness is required and you should be prepared for more challenging routes. You'll need proper walking shoes as it can be muddy and slippery. Due to Edinburgh's notoriously changeable weather a weatherproof jacket is also advised.
Walkers are responsible for their own safety, and no member or organizer from the group can be held responsible in case of any mishap.
By signing up for this walk you are understood to have agreed to these terms.
Distance: estimated 5 km (3 miles)
Total Ascent: estimated 400 meters
Approximate duration, including breaks: 2 hours
Meet me at the the black information kiosk in the Holyrood carpark (close to the Palace and opposite the crags). Leaving at 11.10AM, returning to the kiosk. The exact route will be chosen on the day and we'll walk for roughly two hours. Weather permitting, we'll take in a full 360 degree panorama of Lothian and beyond, including unparalleled views of the city from many vantage points en-route.
It's a short walk from bus stops at the east end of Princess Street or on North Bridge, which are served by most Lothian Buses. Lothian buses 35 stops at the foot of the Royal Mile near the Parliament and Palace.
Facilities & Dogs
There are public toilets at the education centre to the east of the park. Following the walk, I'll be taking a short stroll to Hemma, http://www.bodabar.com/mt-static/hemma.html for a drink or two and possibly a bite to eat; you're welcome to join me.
Dogs are welcome on this walk and in the pub, but must be kept under control at all times and on a short lead as required. Flexible and long leads are a trip hazard and therefore not permitted.
