This walk is limited to 18 people. The RSVPs open five days before, as plans can change quickly during the Festive period. If you have a slot and are unable to come along, please remember to amend your RSVP so that another walker can have the slot ... and so that we're not waiting for you – thanks!
This is an informal, stress-free wander through the sheltered Hermitage of Braids woodland. We'll go up Blackford Hill too, unless the weather is really wild! Meeting at Morningside Clock (at crossroads of Morningside Road, Cluny Gardens. Comiston Road and Balcarres Street), then we'll wander up to the Hermitage entrance. This walk is only a few miles long, although we may do the steady climb to the top of Blackford Hill.
Sturdy footwear should be worn ... and suitable clothing for a winter's day in Edinburgh. If you have them, please bring walking poles, as its likely to be very muddy and slippery underfoot.
If you're a Nordic walker, why not bring your poles along ... I'll have mine :)
Dogs are allowed on this walk, but must be kept on a short lead - no flexi leads, please, as they can be a trip hazard for walkers.
There are public toilets at the Hermitage centre at the start and end of the walk – but I cannot guarantee that these will be open during Festive period.
This walk will probably last a couple of hours. The plan is to go to The Waiting Room at the end of Balcarres Street for a quick snack/drink afterwards. I might even bring some mulled wine and mince pies for us :)
Walkers are responsible for their own safety, and no member or organiser from the group can be held responsible in case of any mishap. Anyone attending without suitable outdoor attire will not be permitted to join the walk. By signing up for this walk you are understood to have agreed to these terms.
