DYL: Between Thought and Word: The Space Where Meaning Lives
Details
In this month’s 52 Living Ideas session, we’ll explore how the words we use shape the way we experience life. Drawing from Psychological Aspects of Natural Language Use: Our Words, Our Selves and How the Language We Speak Affects the Way We Think, we’ll consider how language both reveals our inner world and frames our perception of reality.
Small shifts in language can open space for new perspectives—the difference between saying I have to and I choose to, or between I failed and I learned, can transform how we approach our challenges and relationships. By listening more closely to our own speech and to one another, we can become more aware, intentional, and compassionate in how we communicate. This session is about presence in language, learning to hear what our words reveal, and using them to create understanding, connection, and choice.
Note: We’ll focus on the following sections from Our Words, Our Selves:
- Word Use as a Reflection of Psychological and Health Change,
- Use of Cognitive and Emotion Words,
- Emotion Words and Content Words,
- Use of Word Analyses in Psychotherapy,
Reading the paper beforehand isn’t necessary to take part.
