This group is intended for people from all backgrounds.  It is suitable both for beginners and for experienced meditators.  Whatever your reason for meditating, the main aim of the group is to share the joy of meditation with each other, and to share our skills and stories about meditation.  Many people enjoy the atmosphere of meditating in a group, the contagious inspiration, and the warm friendships which emerge as a result of doing something peaceful together.

The meetings are facilitated by an experienced meditation teacher.  Stephanie can introduce you to a variety of styles of meditation, and give you tips about how to prepare yourself for meditation and how to get the most out of the meditation.  All members are encouraged to share their meditation knowledge and experiences.

The meetings include a structured session for meditation and skill-sharing, followed by an informal time for chatting and getting to know each other.

About the organiser

Stephanie's qualifications as a meditation teacher have been recognised by the Meditation Association of Australia.  She has been practicing meditation intensively for 15 years, using a variety of styles of meditation and drawing on diverse literature about mysticism. She completed several courses with the Clairvision School of Meditation and used distance running to augment her meditation practices. Steph began her career as a scientist (BSc(Hons in Psychology), MSc (Human Sciences)), conducting research in thought patterns, emotional disorders and health promotion. Her career took a turn when she was widowed with two small children, both with disabilities, and her life at home became her “period in a cave” for meditation. While raising the kids, Steph worked in a number of volunteer roles including meditation teacher, university chaplain, speaker at seminars on spiritual development, board member for the ACT Disability, Aged and Carer Advocacy Service, and consultant for the Community Living Project in Canberra.  She has qualifications in crisis counselling, regression therapy and celebrancy, and is a registered marriage celebrant. Before leaving Canberra in 2015, Steph was running two of Canberra's largest personal development Meetup groups. She now runs the Hillwood Road Meditation Skills Centre and describes herself as an independent chaplain ("Steph the Indie Chaplain") because she performs the same variety of work as a chaplain, but is not affiliated with any religion or other institution.
