What we'll do
We warm up by first walking once around Manning Lake (easy 20-minute walk with plenty of time to have a chat). Then we climb the stairs... slowly... It's a great aerobic workout and fitness test! If you can't do stairs, you have option of doing another lap of the lake. But there's a great panoramic view if you reach the lookout at the top of the stairs!
After we catch our breath, we continue the walk along a crushed-limestone track through the bush, arriving at another lookout, where the group does some exercises; usually step-ups, push-ups or whatever you fancy (again, it's optional).
The stairway is located at the south end of Davilak Avenue at Manning Park in Hamilton Hill. It has 192 steps, 50 landings and rest spots.
We meet in the carpark at the base of the Manning Park Stairs, Fridays 9.30am. (At the edge of the carpark that is...look towards the lake and you'll see us. If you spot a group of very athletic youngsters in short-shorts, that's not us!)
The walk takes just over an hour. Bring a bottle of water, hat, windcheater, rain jacket... There is a drinking fountain and toilets nearby. We walk all weathers, but we recommend you drink plenty of water before the walk, especially in summer. New members are very welcome!
