What we're about
The aim of our group is to have fun while building technical skills through hands-on experience in a safe group environment.
We are an active photographic Meetup group, with a dedicated membership of people at all levels of photography, who meet regularly to share a love of photographing people.
We typically work with agency-level models in our shoots to provide solid portfolio-worthy results, and to make it easier for us to focus our time on technique and enjoying the shoot.
Throughout the year, we cover a wide range of people photography genres, including:
- natural light portraiture
- street and editorial fashion
- swimwear on the beach
- dance and fitness
- studio light portrait and body form
- tattoos and inked editorials
- specialist subject themed shoots
- plus many, many more.
We are not a large group of inactive members, but an exclusive group of active members who are committed to attending at least one group Meetup a year. New or re-joining members commit to attending at least one group Meetup within the first three months of their membership to both meet the other group members and see the types of shoots and experiences the group has to offer. We are not a "drive-by" group to join - our membership is regularly managed and levels maintained to focus on active members.
For more information, please see our group's Terms and Conditions here: https://www.meetup.com/Brisbane-Portrait-Photographers/about/
I am a former professional photographer with tertiary qualifications in photography and over 20 years of experience (including 3 years of running workshops). I lead the group to ensure everyone walks away with enough knowledge and technical prowess to apply these techniques into their own work. We discuss location set-ups, technical settings and lighting at all shoots, while working on composition, posing, and communication techniques with our subject.
If you enjoy being active with your photography, enjoy meeting and working with people, and have a sense of fun, you'll really love this group. I encourage you to pick up your camera and join in on the fun.
