What we're about

Groups Overview

Brissy Tribute Bands (BTB) meetup social group recently received recognition from Meetup HQ as one most active Meetup groups in the world, and thanked us for this amazing accomplishment.

This group has become very popular because there are no memberships and most of the events are totally free and everyone likes live music and dancing. These outings sometimes include International and Nationally Bands and Show that would cost thirty dollars upwards at other venues. Other reason for the group’s popularity is that we host meetups for all tastes of music at a variety of venues. Because of this you make many new friends and see new faces. This group was originally organised in meeting for live music and dancing but it has now also become a dinning outing. The monthly meet and greet is a nice ice breaker where you can chat and listen to music in a relaxing environment. We are very passionate about this group right from sourcing, hosting and attending the functions.

What this Group is all About

We originally decided to start this group because we love listening and dancing to tribute bands. This group is for singles, couples young and young at heart who enjoy the music of 50’s through to modern day. Like us you may have not had the opportunity to see the original, because they have disbanded or sadly deceased. The band also may not have toured Australia yet or the tickets were out of your price range, seeing the tributes are the next best thing. If you want to experience the atmosphere, stage performance and sounds of these music legends, Brissy Tribute Bands is for you.

I Would like to Introduce Ourselves

My name is Allan and my wife is Sue, we have been dancing together for eleven years, and we really love old time rock and roll dancing, we also enjoy fast rockabilly. I am a bit quite when we first meet but when there is a common interest like live music and dancing you can’t shut me up. We enjoy house parties, especially when dancing is involved we will become the life of the party. When we are with a group of people on a dance floor we enjoy circle free style dancing where everyone struts their stuff. To put it simply we totally enjoy dancing whether it be rock and roll, freestyle, head banging or just shuffling on the floor, we are not satisfied until we are totally exhausted.

How this Group Functions

Sue and I will find where free Tribute Bands or Shows are playing within the Brisbane and outer shires, which are usually at Sports Clubs and RSL’s. Since they are free shows, we will not be able to pre book seats or tables. When we cant organize a Tribute Band or Show we will fill the rest of our weekend calendar by supporting local duos, blues, jazz and rock and roll bands. We will arrive early to all functions and try to save a seat for you. Look for the black and white streamers and balloons on the tables. It would be greatly appreciated if you drop a gold coin donation into the black bottles for hosting this event; this goes towards the meetup running costs.

Rules and guidelines can permanently be found under the pages tab. Brissy Tribute Bands may amend or add to these rules and guidelines at any time

Smokie Tribute (Australian Smokie Revival, Free)

Redcliffe Leagues Club

Sunday Afternoon Music Smokie is one of the most popular bands in the world today. Their landmark ballad of unrequited love, “Living Next Door to Alice”, was released in 1976 and Australia quickly embraced the song, sending it soaring up the charts. Their massive success story has continued to flourish around the globe including Scandinavia, South Africa, Germany and even China. Smokie is a band which has sold out tours and gained platinum records in four decades – the 70s, 80s, 90s and the present day. Smokie’s sound is a combination of hook-laden songs and distinctive but unashamedly stateside-influenced soft rock harmonies. Their secret is their vocal blend – a rasping, emotion-drenched lead set against melodic harmonies that produces a unique, bittersweet result. The Smokie Revival is a full two-hour show reviving the hits of this great band from its peak popularity in the late 70s to the early 80s. For more than a decade, Smokie churned out incredible vocal hits that can still be heard on the airwaves across the globe. Five talented musicians from Brisbane have come together to recapture the Smokie experience in all its vocal and musical glory. The show is a music journey of nostalgia guaranteed to leave audiences fulfilled with an incredible night of hits and memories. Smokie is also renowned for covering some of their favourite artists and adding their unique harmonies to the music creating another fresh sound to an already great song. So to help you jolt the memory and get excited about this energising show, here are some songs you can expect to hear at our show. Some of the songs you will hear at the show include… Somethings been making me blue I’ll meet you at midnight Mexican girl For a few dollars more San Francisco bay Take good care of my baby It’s your life If you think you know how to love me Don’t play your rock n roll to me Lay back in the arms of someone Needles and pins Oh Carol Living next door to Alice And many more … Listen out for their version of "Mexican Girl". It is very good.
