What we'll do
This months book is Wonder by R J Palacio
A little about the book:
August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.
You don't have to have finished reading the book, or have read the book at all, to attend the meetup. We are a social group who just love to read and talk about books.
There is no structure to the book club. There are no set discussion questions. Simply come along, feel free to order a coffee and/or food if you wish, and talk about the book with other avid readers from Canberra.
If you have trouble finding the venue or the members, please communicate through this meetup post and the attending organiser will help guide you.
If you have RSVPed to this meetup and you choose not to go, please alter your RSVP. This is a courtesy for the organisers, who can then make other arrangements if there are no other booked attendees. Please note: The Canberra Book Club have a policy where members are removed from the group if they are a no-show to three meetups.
At each meetup we ask for a gold coin donation towards the fees of running this book club on the Meetup website. Your contribution is voluntary, optional, and very much appreciated.
