What we'll do
This is an evening photo walk, specially planned to do some dusk-to-night photography of sparkling lights and colourful reflections.
We’ll start at the Haven. (Did you know that the little sheltered bay itself is called “Tarragal Haven”?) We’ll walk along the foreshore towards Terrigal itself. There will be opportunities for placing interesting foregrounds in your shots - like sandstone walks, rocky platforms, and wavelets. Or playing with water and slow shutter speeds.
The challenge will be getting good exposures of both dark areas and bright street lights. Some people might want to prepare their gear for some HDR effects - either in-camera multiple exposures, or afterwards with your editing software.
This is a photo walk that’s short on distance but long on photo opps.
Afterwards, if you feel you’ve done a good job, you might want to drop in at a local bar for rewarding glass of wine or beer.
EXTRA INFO: Some people might want to arrive early to take advantage of the Golden Hour (from about 4:15 pm) and Sunset (exactly 5:16 pm). My favourite light is the Afterglow (about 5:30). The time from approximately 5:30 to 6:00 is the Blue Hour, before the night sky turns pitch black, and is really good for this type of scene.
WHAT TO BRING:
A tripod definitely required. Smartphones will have problems capturing anything in low light levels. So let that be a creative challenge for anyone bringing one.
WHERE TO MEET: I suggest parking your car at the Haven parking lot. Then meet at Terrigal Boat Ramp, which is right next to Haven Beach Cafe. I think the parking is free but I'm not sure. Does anyone know? If you arrive late and want to catch up, take note of my mobile number[masked]
