What we're about

Code for Fort Collins ( http://codeforfoco.org/ ) is an organization for volunteers to use their (non)technical skills to improve Fort Collins. We are a part of the Code for America Brigade Network (https://brigade.codeforamerica.org/), which is a loose affiliation of member-driven grass-roots organizations all trying to make their local communities better.

We build projects that serve specific already-existing needs for local organizations (non-profits, NGOs, government) and *alternately* use open data APIs to make cool things. A few examples:

* For Homeward 2020, we helps them to visualize data they were gathering about homelessness in the community using Tableau (http://www.homeward2020.org/data-dashboard/).

* For our members' interest in "open data" we're using a city solar permitting data chart how it's doing compared to its ambitious climate goals (http://solar-scorecard.org). The project is using Vue JS.

We're always looking for new projects. Please let us know if you've got an idea. You can email people@codeforfoco.org or show up for a meeting.

We also need lots of non-code volunteers! Most directly, we're seeking people to build awareness of us in the community (to find new projects, and get more volunteers) and people who can help us keep our

New Member + Work Night

Old Town Library

Interested in Code for Fort Collins? Want to use technology to help your community? Come join us and learn what we are about. In short: Code for Fort Collins is an organization where volunteers use their technical skills to build projects to have a positive community impact. Everyone is welcome; it takes a lot more than programmers to make this happen—and we need your help. Our New Member Nights are organized to help new member understand Code for Fort Collins's mission, projects, and how to get involved. After we've covered that, we'll typically start to work. Your first project is figuring out how you’ll contribute to CFFC. 🤓 You can learn more about Code for Fort Collins @ http://codeforfoco.org/ (http://codeforfoco.org/).

Project Night

Old Town Library

Project nights are dedicated collaboratively working on the development of Code for Fort Collins projects to impact the local community. We'll start with a "stand-up" meeting to cover what you've done, what (if anything) you're needing help on, and then get to work. You can (and we encourage) working on projects outside of these meetings. But this is your dedicated time collaborate and talk through the process. If you are new to Code for Fort Collins it is recommended that you attend one of our onboarding events the first Thursday of every month. We'll explain and be friendly if you've not been before, but we're more organized for helping people understand what we do on New Member Nights. *Bringing a laptop is strongly encouraged*, but not required.
