Join us for bowling, drinks and fun on October 24th Doesn't matter if you can hit strikes consistently or need the bumpers to play, bowling is always a reliably good time, so I figured it would be a good meetup. Bowlounge is a great bowling lounge (See what they did with their name?) in the Design District that offers plenty of lanes, a full bar with 40+ taps, specialty cocktails and extensive bourbon/whiskey selection and great food. https://www.bowloungedallas.com/ We'll meet at around 6:30pm at the bar and then get a couple of lanes at around 7pm. Price is $7.25 per person/per game plus $3.00 shoe rental.
Come join us for beers, costumes and fun on Oct 26 Martin House is easily my favorite brewery in DFW. This is their 7th year doing this, and the first year I have a chance to check it out, so I thought it would be a great event. Per their website: "The Booery Tour is our favorite event here at Martin House. The weather in the backyard is perfect. Everyone’s dressed up in something ridiculous. And the beer couldn’t be crispier. This year we are celebrating with 20+ limited beers on tap. We’ll have a costume contest for dogs and humans alike. Live Music by the man Ole G. Food truck info and full beer list coming soon! Tickets will be $15 which covers your pint glass and four 8oz pours. Extra beer cards will be available for $10 each. You will buy them at the door. Cheers!" Dressing up in costume is encouraged but not necessary!
Come join us for coffee, discussion and friends October 27th Need an excuse to read new books? Want to spend some time with some same-minded literary folks? Then join us for our recurring monthly meetup! We will continue 2019 by reading a Halloween appropriate book, The Changeling, by Victor LaValle, a book that deals with mental illness, postpartum depression, and living as a person of color in New York City, set at odds with fairy tales and Scandinavian folklore When Apollo Kagwa’s father disappeared, all he left his son were strange recurring dreams and a box of books stamped with the word IMPROBABILIA. Now Apollo is a father himself—and as he and his wife, Emma, are settling into their new lives as parents, exhaustion and anxiety start to take their toll. Apollo’s old dreams return and Emma begins acting odd. Irritable and disconnected from their new baby boy, at first Emma seems to be exhibiting signs of postpartum depression, but it quickly becomes clear that her troubles go even deeper. Before Apollo can do anything to help, Emma commits a horrific act—beyond any parent’s comprehension—and vanishes, seemingly into thin air. Thus begins Apollo’s odyssey through a world he only thought he understood, to find a wife and child who are nothing like he’d imagined. His quest, which begins when he meets a mysterious stranger who claims to have information about Emma’s whereabouts, takes him to a forgotten island, a graveyard full of secrets, a forest where immigrant legends still live, and finally back to a place he thought he had lost forever. This captivating retelling of a classic fairy tale imaginatively explores parental obsession, spousal love, and the secrets that make strangers out of the people we love the most. It’s a thrilling and emotionally devastating journey through the gruesome legacies that threaten to devour us and the homely, messy magic that saves us, if we’re lucky.
