What we're about

Photo from Te Wheti riser to Wainuomata hill walk.
Hiking to huts in the Wellington region on Fridays and returning back to normal life in Saturdays. Always felt like you got more out of the weekend. If you got ready Thursday night took your gear to work ready to go.
The group was born from about 6 tramps we would do on fridays afterwork in the winter. Never in bad conditions.

Field hut \

Herepai hut \

Haurangi hut \

Powell hut
Try to target huts max 2hr drive from lower hutt with about 4hour max hike.
Also been organizing night walks to help build fitness and confidence walking at night.
I know my walks are very Hutt centric but im just a simple hutt valley boy making use of the valley walls that contain us from the rest of the world.
If any one has any suggestions of town walks we can do please post. (must contain a kick arse hill).
For safety reasons i will only take people on friday night overnight tramps that i have walked with before and know their ability.
when night hiking the cold and/or a navigation error could be fatal so the group needs to be able to stay together. Its not about only super fit people doing the night tramps but the aim is to do the walk in the posted Doc times. if you can't do that in the daylight then keep working on it.

Upcoming events (4+)

Mid week quickie

Needs a location

If your keen for some quick cardo action after work im going to be walking up the Te Whiti park firebreak then down the bush track Hayward reserve.

Might change it up and change directions.

Im going to be doing it regularly every Wednesday so if you can join in come along.

the objective walk giving 100% on the uphill and regroup at the top around 5pm and amble down together on the down hill section.

if you want to start earlier to get a head start that's cool, just add a comment in the group that you have started.

all fitness levels welcome

usually Just over an hour to do the complete normal circuit.

if its a nice night and No ones got other plans we may tack on some extra walks along the tops.

What ever your motivation

If we can motivate each other to get it done let's do it.

What to bring

Thats it.

Water, jackets, Snacks, Warm layers not necessary.

FNA Holdsworth Jumbo circuit one day 12hrs

Needs a location

This is a big walk to test you ability to go all day.

Saturday meet at carpark

Potentially a 12 hour day of trekking awaits us.
Daypack only

This trip is very weather permitting, across the top between Jumbo and Powell is not to be taken lightly, its exposed to the wind and the cold and there could be show and ice along the tops.

We should be able to make our way from holdworth past Atiwhakatu Hut
up rain gauge spur to jumbo without to much drama here we will make an assessment if we continue on across the top checking the conditions on the mountain and weather forecast.

if it's not safe to do so we will turn back and return to carpark. As many holdsworth trips go often turned back by the conditions.

A high level of fitness is required.

here is a blog from Larry having done the day trip in the opposite direction
