What we're about
GOYA Meetup Group (formerly known as St. Ives Over 45’s) is a not-for-profit voluntary organisation founded by me in February 2013.
My aim has been to establish a close-knit, enthusiastic and committed group of like-minded friends over the age of 50, who attend events on a regular basis and who give 100% commitment to making them successful. Accordingly, if you are a member of more than ten Meetup groups, you may not be a suitable member for our group and your application may be declined for this reason.
We are NOT about collecting as many members as possible as is the case with many of the other groups and for this reason I've decided to cap member numbers at 250.
G.O.Y.A. (Get Off Your Arse) is about making changes to your life, trying different activities and making new friends.
Our activities are varied and many. In 2017 we had 34 meetups which included activities such as evenings at The Terrey Hills Tavern, numerous walks, house parties and games night, an art galleries tour, theatre performances, Wahroonga Twilight Concert, a visit to the Baha'i Temple, a picnic on Shark Island, bike rides, kayaking and tennis afternoons.
We are a very friendly, approachable bunch of people and I encourage new members not to feel daunted when it comes to attending their first event.
Members are required to familiarise themselves with the Membership Rules (http://www.meetup.com/St-Ives-Over-45s/pages/Membership_Rules/) and comply with them. These rules cover conduct at group events, the liability of organisers of events, complying with administrative issues, termination of membership and other matters. Reading them may help you decide whether this is the right group for you.
All members and their guests are required to make a $2 payment when attending a group event. The proceeds are placed into a fund out of which running expenses of the group are paid. For example, the annual fee of approximately $250 for use of the Meetup website software and extras which add to the enjoyment of our meetups. Any surplus is given to charity.
The majority of our members are from the North Shore and Northern Beaches of Sydney. Preference will be given to new members over the age of 50, who reside in a suburb as shown in the map below.
