What we'll do
BOOKINGS FOR THIS WALK WILL OPEN ON FEBRUARY 11
Please note that there will be no W&W event in February due to Barry's availability. Continuing our series of Sunday afternoon 'Walk & Wine', we'll meet at the Currumbin Surf Club for our next sojourn. This one is a slight departure from our usual beachwalks, heading up along the river and through the wetlands. We won't get very far in terms of our trek to The Spit but this one is a particularly nice walk ... and we'll finish up at the beautiful Currumbin SLSC which is always a winner!
THE WALK - approx 5kms
Following the river and parklands along to the old Currumbin bridge, then across to the other side for a very pleasant trail along the timbered boardwalk through Mangrove wetlands. Before you return to the surf club via the new bridge, extend the walk by exploring the trails through the beachfront parkland along the northern mouth of the creek. Not sure how long this one is - only a few kilometres.
ORGANISER Barry Baker -[masked]. Please make sure your RSVP is up to date the night before and text Barry on the day if you find you can't make it at the last minute so the group does not have to wait around unnecessarily.
WHAT TO BRING Water, hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes. Photo ID is required for entry to our surf lifesaving clubs so please make sure you bring your driver's licence or similar.
NEW MEMBERS WELCOME! If you haven't been to one of our events before, our monthly Walk & Wine is a great way to get a feel for what we're all about and to meet some new people. We've set ourselves the goal of walking the Gold Coast Oceanway this year - a 36-km track that extends from Pt Danger on the NSW/Qld border up to the Southport Spit. Each month, we'll do a short section on a Sunday afternoon, followed by coffee or drinks at the nearest watering hole. This is purely a social event and we take it at a very leisurely pace so fitness is not an issue.
COST We'll pass around the hat again for a $1 contribution to cover our registration on the Meetup website which is around $190 per year. We are a strictly non-profit organisation and any additional funds in the kitty are donated to the Springbrook SES each year.
OUR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY PHILOSOPHY We are not a formal organisation or association and take no responsibility for any mishaps that may occur as a result of our activities. As such, it is up to each individual to make sure they are capable of attempting this track.
