What we'll do

One of the most interesting films in the upcoming Transitions Film Festival, this doco is about Sydney's very own Ronni Kahn, CEO of OzHarvest. The night includes a Q&A with Ronni Kahn and filmmaker Dan Goldberg. It's the Sydney premiere screening.

MEET ON THE NIGHT:
Unless you hear otherwise closer, the plan is to meet at the seats near the bar at the Dendy Newtown - both before the film and straight after. Come at 5.45pm! (Look forward to seeing you! I'm the bald bloke.) The film starts at 6.30pm. The film runs for an hour and half, then we'll meet back at the same spot. If there's enough interest for dinner we'll venture to a restaurant closeby.

MORE ABOUT THE FILM:
Ronni Kahn has enough passion and drive to move mountains – but can she solve Australia’s food waste crisis? Filmed over two years and on four continents, Food Fighter is the inspirational story of one woman’s crusade to save perfectly edible food.

Kahn used to be a contributor to Australia’s massive annual food waste bill when she ran a successful corporate events company producing million dollar dinners. Then she realised the absurdity of throwing away perfectly edible food and decided to prioritise social activism over profit by founding OzHarvest. Now, she’s taking on politicians and big business to expose an inconvenient truth: that over four million tonnes of edible food is discarded in Australia every year while up to two million Aussies suffer from food insecurity. And to add insult to injury, this food waste ends up in landfill, harming the environment by creating greenhouse gas emissions.

Food Fighter follows Ronni’s crusade as she partners with the United Nations, rubs shoulders with royalty and Jamie Oliver’s juggernaut, rifles through dumpster bins and holds government to account.

THINK ACT CHANGE:
This is another great MeetUp. These guys are co-hosting this doco.
