What we're about

Welcome to the International Volunteers for WWF Meetup! We’re a group of English speaking individuals who are passionate about supporting the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

This group was formed because we noticed a large number of volunteers who were eager to support WWF, and felt more comfortable communicating in English. All of our groups and meetings are in English. We are here to work alongside the other WWF groups, but also host events of our own. Of course, if you speak German/ Swiss German/ any other language, you are more than welcome to join us!

We host a wide variety of events, from rescuing migratory birds, to having an expert talk to us about solar energy, to learning about species and ecosystems... to just hanging out! We are open to your input and ideas, or even developing your own project.

If you want more information you can contact us at intvolunteers.ch@gmail.com

Workshop: Climate action for busy people who care

WWF Schweiz

CHF20.00

The impacts of climate change are being felt all around the globe, and the scale of the problem can be so overwhelming that we simply don’t know where to begin. The good news is that individual actions can and do make a difference. So in honour of Global Climate Strike Week (September 20-27), Decarbonista and WWF Schweiz are offering a 3-hour interactive workshop for busy people who care about climate change and want practical tips on maximising their own efforts to reduce emissions. Highly recommended for: household decision-makers, parents, influencers, sustainability professionals, club/group/Verein leaders. Join this workshop if you want to: - Understand your past and present carbon footprint - Build your own carbon budget and create a personalised, data-driven plan to reduce emissions - Set achievable, personal goals that fit into your life - Stay motivated to have positive climate impact - Connect with like-minded people This workshop is presented in English. Light refreshments will be provided. Join us and become part of the #climatesolution. For the international volunteers of WWF the event is on donation basis (20 CHF is recommended, the regular price is CHF 195). You will pay at the door. Clearing of meadows in Guppenalp/Unterstafel

Schwanden

The WWF is looking for volunteers for a hands-on activity on the "Guppenalp". Guppenalp is one of the most scenic spots in the canton of Glarus. This remote location is situated at 916m in a great alpine world. The alp Unterstafel, the lowest one of the different alps of Guppenalp, will soon be covered at different places with forests. To prevent the loss of the rare meadows with broad biodiversity we will help to clear the bushes and trees. We will make piles of wood, which different animals will love as a hiding place or breeding area. Over the next years, the goats of this alp will prevent the forest to cover the meadows again. After the activity, it is possible to hike down to the railway station along the Guppenrus (gully), a spectacularly wild river (around 30 to 40 minutes). Lunch: Please bring your lunch and enough drinkable water although we will be offered some local cheese and bread. What to bring: Boots and clothing adequate for terrain, work and weather. Bring a sun hat and sunscreen if necessary, or a raincoat. Please bring mosquito and tick repellent and plenty to drink. Important: Please take into consideration that this involves physical work and we will be working in steep terrain, so you need to be fit. The insurance is your responsibility. The event will only take place in good weather, so in case of bad weather, the event will be canceled and an announcement will be done per email the day before around 17:00h. Not Suitable for Kids under 14 years old. Meeting point: Bahnhof Schwanden https://goo.gl/maps/SwfDkSVPDRQWyx1HA A bus will pick us up there and take us to the Alp Unterstafel Languages: English and German

Bern Climate Demonstration

Bern

On 28 September there will be a major demonstration to set an example for a consistent and just climate policy. Climate policy affects us all. Three weeks before the national elections, we are encouraging everyone to travel to the national climate demo in Bern to have your voice heard. We want to make it clear to the politicians that their decisions now and in the years to come are deciding the future of our livelihoods. We expect action instead of words! We want a consistent climate policy. We want an exit from coal, oil and gas- also in the Swiss financial sector. We want climate justice. We encourage everyone to share this information and get as many people to Bern on the 28th as possible. There have been bike routes organised in case you want to cycle to Bern. At the moment we do not have an organised group leaving from Zurich. If you would like to organise this, please reach out. All information can be found at the link below. It's in German, but that's why we have our friend Google Translate! https://www.klimademo.ch
