What we're about

Kayak Explorers is paddling group on the west coast of Florida. We also often have biking, hiking, sailing and other activities for our members. Our members are mainly residents of Sarasota and Manatee Counties, but everyone is welcome to join.

Welcome to Kayak Explorers!

Members have a 30 DAY FREE TRIAL period to "get to know our group." Prior to the end of the 30 day trial period, the annual dues of $10 must be paid or new members will be dropped from our group. How to pay dues is included in the "Welcome" message sent when you first join. Dues come due again January 1 of every year. New members must have a profile picture of themselves. Members must each have their own membership-no couples/families together. Dues help pay for parties, rental fees of different venues, food, supplies, and the meet up fee.

Dues must be paid and current to participate in events.

Our group is suitable for all levels of paddlers. Hosts of paddles list the appropriate skill level on event descriptions. If you are unsure about your skill level or your mode for paddling, contact the event Host.

Children under 18 and pets are not allowed on paddles unless members receive permission from the Host of the event.

Please be supportive of Hosts. We are all volunteers. If you have any questions or concerns, message the Host or post a comment on the event page. Meanwhile, let them lead, stay with the group, be a team player, on time, cooperative and enjoy.

Each participant on a Kayak Explorers paddle must have a seaworthy boat, a Coast Guard approved PFD, a whistle, and a white light for night paddles.

No-show Policy

Last minute issues come up that can prevent someone from attending a paddle or event once they RSVP. There are often waiting lists. Hosts are committed to starting the event on time. No shows and late arrivals can hold up the whole group as well as prevent those on the waiting list from participating. Anyone who RSVPs and fails to show up at the time of the event without changing their status or notifying the Host two times will be removed from the group.

We are not a dating site, discussing politics is discouraged, please be courteous to other members and especially the Hosts who put their time and energy into listings events for all of us to participate in.

We hope to see you at our next paddle or event!

KAYAK: Deep Water Self Rescue Skills

NORTH Coquina Boat Ramp

Would you know what to do if you were to fall out of your kayak in deep water and you were all alone? Accidents do happen and you should be prepared with a well rehearsed and executed self rescue. This self rescue skills set is designed for you to self rescue on the kayak that you commonly paddle whether it is a sit-on-top, a sea kayak, a recreational kayak, an open cockpit, or a surf-ski. This session is for all paddlers who are not familiar with self rescue in their OWN kayak. It is meant to get you acquainted with the technique(s) that you will need to execute a self rescue in deep water. It will be SPECIFIC to the kayak that you bring to the session. We will be practicing the "cowboy scramble" which is the most common and one of the easiest techniques of self rescue to execute. This self rescue session is limited to 8 paddlers. Due to this limited number of spaces, please sign up ONLY if you are sure that you will be attending. Make sure you go to the recently renovated NORTH Coquina Boat Ramp at 1465 Gulf Dr. S. (NOT the SOUTH Coquina Boat Ramp near the Longboat Key Bridge).
