  • Le Petit Cinema #09
LE PETIT CINEMA #09 > Part of the 360 DEGREES WOMEN MONTH. 28 Millimeters, Women Are Heroes, Directed by the French artist JR Doors Open at 7pm $10 entry Petit Bistro will be serving home made Pizza and delicious Italian Wine (by donation). Projection start at 8pm (ish) TRAILER https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0XpI5qDF6g SYNOPSIS "Woman are heroes" takes place all over the world and especially in Brazil, India, Kenya and Cambodia. The film begins in the Brazilian favelas, where we will see huge posters of JR and the reactions they arouse in women. Then in India, where we will discover women caught between ancestral customs and a daily modernity. Then Kenya where, again, women have to live in a context that is more than chaotic and unstable. Finally, in Cambodia, we will be confronted with the violence of the ultra-violent expropriation made to homes held by a matriarchal system that tries to resist the mastodons of real estate ... Each of these women will surprise us with his courage and his faith. ➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕➕ ABOUT JR Who could have ever imagined that photography could be installed into streets? Well street artist JR did just the unimaginable by combining the two. Born in France on February 22, 1983, JR was just another average teenager with a passion for graffiti. He lived graffiti and truly enjoyed the movement. His graffiti moniker was Face 3. However, it was not until he found a camera on the subway that his perception on street art change. This allowed him to track the individuals who communicate messages via walls and street art. He quickly began to track people in the forbidden undergrounds and roofs of Paris, France. In 2004, street artist JR photographed the riots that broke out in the banlieues and created his first major project by pasting up large prints of their faces around the city. JR owns the biggest art gallery in the world. He exhibits freely in the streets of the world and has always allowed the public to assist with his street artwork. He prefers to catch the attention of people who are not a part of the typical museum visitors. His work mixes Art and Act, talks about commitment, freedom, identity, and limit.

  • Zuzu Galova // Exhibition Opening
Since 2014, Le Petit Bateau art collective made this personal engagement to dedicate an entire month to ALL the Women in the world. NOVEMBER 2018 will be THE month and we are proud to start with the exhibition opening of the Slovak artist Zuzu Galova. "IN HIDE AND SEEK" exhibition by ZUZU GALOVA Great Opening Friday 2nd Nov 7-10pm MUSIC Because we dedicate November to all the women, we are glad to announce that the lovely Courtney Luffman aka OM Ayita will be playing some experimental tunes linked with elegance and subtlety to the imaginary world of the artist Zuzu Galova. https://soundcloud.com/omayita Food and Drinks by donation IN HIDE AND SEEK What if you could dream while you were awake? The series “In Hide and Seek” represents the self-portraits combining the imaginary world of the artist Zuzu Galova. It’s a constant hide and seek of the feelings, moods and self-discovery. In many of her artworks, you can find a fish element. For Zuzu fish symbolises her inner world, which is part of her daily presence. PROCESS The artworks of this series are minimalistic and unique, using mainly black (and occasionally red) colour. Zuzu uses for her artworks various techniques from printmaking to painting in larger scales. One of the most favourite ones is a technique of a linocut print. Which means that a design is cut into the linoleum surface with a sharp knife, with the uncarved areas representing a reversal/mirror image of the parts to show printed. The linoleum sheet is inked with a roller and then impressed onto paper. The actual printing is done with a printing press. All done with care and love of the artist. Once the original prints are done, the selected ones are carefully scanned, then additionally printed with the old technique from Japan called risograph to make the quality art prints more accessible to a wider audience. An interesting thing about risograph is, that this printing technique uses banana peels to create stencils for printing and the ink is made of soybeans. Adding to it the recycled paper, we can tell that all artworks Zuzu has created are eco-friendly. ▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪ ZUZU GALOVA Zuzu is a Slovak designer, illustrator, photographer and craft-maker with a passion for the natural world. She is currently based in Sydney, Australia, after spending a few years wandering the world. She’s opened the independent design studio called Crea Crea Studio, with her partner Peter. Known for her diverse skill-set, she has worked with international advertising agencies, start-ups and various organisations including: Coca-Cola, Absolut Vodka, and many more. www.inhideandseek.com @inhideandseek or https://www.instagram.com/inhideandseek/ www.theycallmezuzu.com ▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪

Trailer > https://vimeo.com/205223321 (IT > english subtitle will be provided during the projection) Synopsis The documentary tells a story of Scampia (northern suburbs of Naples) that has its roots in the rural fertility of the place, a story born three decades ago, when Felice Pignataro and the GRIDAS, gave life to a neighbourhood carnival. A carnival procession as an opportunity for "a recovery of dexterity, which at school should not only go with the head, but also with the hands, to establish and maintain at least one popular tradition that also contributes to the identity of the neighbourhood; creativity applied to everyday life cases, to establish a relationship between school and territory, exhibiting outside, in the parade on the streets, what was produced at school, and using the territory as a theatre, to educate on the recycling of materials of waste or scrap, fabrics, old toys, packaging boxes, etc. " A carnival procession that has grown over time becoming really great, because, in more than thirty years, the more or less organised associative realities that make Scampia alive and that, in some way, follow the traces launched by Felice. A carnival procession that, in keeping its roots firm with the first editions, has grown and changed, enriching itself with meanings and peculiarities. --------------------------------------- 15th October * From 7pm Conversation with the artist Carlos Agamez * 8pm, Projection of NOWHERE, NOW HERE , directed by Carlos Agamez Garcia. * 8.30pm, Projection of the documentary U Stisso Sangu, directed by Francesco Di Martino & Sebastiano Aderno Trailer> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfJ3FNvehGA (IT > english subtitle will be provided during the projection) Synopsis the film traces the fundamental stages that, in a different way, face the migrants that arrive on the Sicilian coast: the journey and the landing, the first reception and the problem of the home, work and integration. The stories cross each other and sometimes clash with those of our reality: the Coast Guard that recovers them at sea, the doctor who provides them with first aid, the reporter who follows their stories, the entrepreneur who takes them to work in the fields, the community staff who hosts, the "stranger" who also attends the commemoration ritual of those who died at sea. --------------------------------------- CARLOS AGAMEZ In 2012 Carlos Agamez received a scholarship granted by UNESCO to come to Australia to do an artist in residency and developed ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ as a comparison between refugees in Australia and Internally Displaced People in Colombia. Currently the artwork is experiencing changes to research the theme of identity, and a common concept of home. Nowadays, Carlos explores a wider concept of home within the human identity for immigrants and refugees.

There was never a limit to creativity and efforts, never a curb put on resources spending to bring the extravaganza, reach the bliss! Ever since party has been a thing, some people dedicated there life to it, some people against it. To free themselves from any sort of abusive regulations and avoid crackdown, a bunch of nonconformist souls have gathered on the ocean to form a mystic fleet sailing through times, outliving civilizations, dancing endlessly on Caravel, their main vessel. But one day, the real world caught up on them! Caravel was sinking… So busy satisfying their lust for life, the crew didn’t notice that lately, the new comers have been bringing all sorts of objects made in a strange material. It was plastic! The all ship was covered of it, but also the surroundings so that the skiffs were either half sunk under the mass or lying on top of it… The Caravel partysailors were stunned, nothing prepared them for that, besides, many had not been facing any real life matters for years, even milleniums for the vast majority of the crew! Their lifestyle was threatened, but one thing they didn’t forget, is how much it means to them, and how resilient they are when it comes to resist a partykiller! The Caravel crew is now back on track, they collected the plastic and turned it into props of all sorts, changing drastically the decoration of a stage from another Age. Usually navigating back and forth through time and space in the nebulous waters of the Bermuda Triangle, Caravel recently heard of a rumor slipping away from the fellow crew of Sunset Island. Some say that they found the Lost City of Atlantis and this year, we will be dropping anchor beside them to see with our own eyes! Come and join us at the Caravel anchorage every afternoon to lounge around and prepare yourself before we all dive in for a twilight journey driven by the Sunset Island’s maestri!!! Saturday arvo is going to be particularly epic as Caravel will be staging its Disco Cruise Tragedy from 12pm til 6pm ; a blend of formidable selectors, giving life to this vamped up cruise ship. Put on your most dramatic outfits and come be an actor of a tragicomic frenzy you won’t forget. Spectacular outfits, melancholic make up, and epic smiles are a must! By Hugo Croco

Le Petit Bateau art collective presents >>>> RESET Opening exhibition by the Brazilian artist Eduardo Be. LIve Music / Live Art / Projection Friday 3rd August[masked]pm - 9.45pm FREE entry No BYO please ★★★★★★★★★ Feat. ★ Life Drawing Session - all materials provided - ★ Live art by Eduardo Be. ★ Live Music >>> Announced Soon ★Projection organised by Create Or Die ★★★★★★★★★ RESET is an expression of Brazilian artist Eduardo Be's metamorphosis from life in southern Brazil as a street art activist to his current home Sydney. Eduardo is renowned for his work which intends to reach people with short and direct messages that could change their days. During Eduardo's time working in a remote region his resources were limited, which lent him to expression in the form of watercolour paints and primary colours. Eduardo's painting style pushes the traditional boundaries of this classic medium. His work process involves a layering of watercolour paint and wire, becoming a multi-dimensional expression. The visual technique mirrors a metaphor of expansion and growth, beyond the canvas and status quo. The messaging of each work is related to moments along his journey, from the point of departure to a symbolic meetings on the streets. The artist’s work is a continuing tribute to his surroundings and the experiences that reside within it. Reset is Eduardo Be's first Australian Solo Exhibition. By Yasmin Shima

  • Graham Reed - ART IS EVERYWHERE
    • What we'll do Le Petit Bateau art collective presents Graham Reed - ART IS EVERYWHERE 31st Jan 7pm - 10pm Katipo Cafe 101 Bondi Road Hip Hop music // Drinks // Community vibes Art show running until the 31st March https://www.facebook.com/events/1912032082158925/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- It is not often that an artist can dance between styles successfully and still pull it off. Case in point, Graham Reed, aka IG Retro_Chef is such an artist that can balance the fragile acts of these two realms, Contemporary modern art and Bansky-Wharhol-esque artwork. Graham is an artist from England that lives and works in Sydney Australia. Endearing the audience to multifaceted ideas of shapes and color. Reed's exploration of paint heightens the viewer’s experience of bold color contrasts. The warm and cold polarities of Reeds work shows the strength of composition invoking distinct emotions sometimes devoid in abstract painting. In his day job as a chef Graham is aware of the enormous amount of waste that is discarded everyday. For his art Graham uses materials thrown away and upcycles them for his works, while his Pop-art oeuvre shows his ability to attract a wide audience. In his piece "Michael Caine", done in stark black and white, Reed adds two strips of black paint on opposite ends of the canvas displaying his ability to play between Mondrian-like geometry and Bansky-like stencil work. Is the work appealing? Reed's style borrows from those who came before him but he adds his own twist of modern day cool. These paintings would be a great asset to the inside of any contemporary home or office. Artist Statement “Growing up all I did was draw, but after being a little wild I didn't get into any fine art schools so I became a qualified chef. My pulse in life is all things creative but mostly art, music, photography and cooking. After getting a job working in the creative workshop for the Mardi Gras team (for the last 5 years consecutively) I stepped into a world of painting. After working alongside some very interesting and creative individuals from all over the world I started to collaborate and venture off into solo works and exhibitions. My style is abstract and stencil and after being a chef for years I hate to see waste so working with the workshop I started to recycle materials and paints and turn what would be "rubbish for the bin" into rustic , retro artworks for anywhere to be enjoyed. I would spend many nights in this huge warehouse sanding back woods, mixing old and new paints with a few beers, cigarettes and the loud echo of music through the industrial walls. I got to work and my love and creativity I always had was reborn” Graham Reed • What to bring • Important to know

It's in 2011 that everything started for Vincent and his friend Adrien, both founder of the famous french art collective Ready Made France (RMF).
