What we're about
Hey guys and girls, we’re a group of amateur musicians that get together to make some music in a group. We try to have a session at least once every two weeks and typically host them somewhere in Perth’s northern suburbs on a Sunday afternoon.
We cater for all musical abilities and don’t care whether you have been playing forever or just a few days. We learn from one another whenever there is an opportunity.
Sessions are generally held at one of the group member’s house or in one of Perth’s beautiful parks and run for around two or three hours. We get the ball rolling with a couple of songs that are quite familiar to most people, after which things start getting spontaneous with anyone nominating another song to try. As the group name say, we predominantly play acoustic instruments. This is however not a hard-and-fast rule as long as you haul your own amplification equipment and respect the general volume levels of the group.
Some of the location we play at are set up very nicely and have the capabilities to project music onto a screen from which we all can play. For those occasions where we play in locations not geared up, we will bring a few printed copies of songs. If you attend one of these feel free to bring copies of your favourite songs on paper (keep an eye on the number of people who have RSVPd for the number of copies you are likely to need).
The group is mainly made up of acoustic guitars and vocalists. In the past we’ve had some folks playing the percussion instruments (e.g. Bongos, Congas, Djembes and Cajons), Ukuleles, Bass and even the triangle.
Group Rules and Etiquette
We try not to have a bunch of rules and regulations, but there are some things our members have to keep in mind. Please take a look at our Basic Group Etiquette (http://www.meetup.com/Perth-N-O-R-Acoustic-Sing-and-Jam-Sessions/pages/Basic_Group_Etiquette/) page for more information on how to make it a good experience for everyone.
We operate as a strictly NOT FOR PROFIT group and rely on the generosity and kindness of our members to keep things going. We have members who quite generously pay for the membership to Meetup.com, others who provide locations for us to play and sometimes even some snacks. Every so often we may end up in a venue may may have to pay, for these we may ask for the optional gold coin donation.
