4 Week Introductory Kayak Course
One of the best things you can do is *KAYAK* the stunning, tranquil waters of the SWAN RIVER spotting dolphins, a variety of bird-life, and taking in the pristine vistas of the river banks. Kayaking is a relatively safe activity. Kayakers range from young children to people in their late 70's with skill levels from recreational beginners to current Olympians. About the Course Courses run in 4-week blocks, commencing the first Saturday of each month. Saturday morning courses are 8:30 am to 10.00 am. All ages 16 and up are suitable and limited to 17 people. Courses in warmer months fill up quickly!! BOOK TODAY!! This course is aimed at the complete novice or someone wanting to brush off a few cobwebs, and once completed, should see you with the confidence and knowledge to safely embark on a paddle on the calm waters of the Swan River around Garvey Park, where the Ascot Kayak Club (AKC) is located or high up the Swan. Correct entry and exit of the craft, holding the paddle, the various forward, reverse and turning strokes are covered in the course. This course will aid in selecting the right craft if you intend to purchase your own craft in the present or distant future. AKC supplies all the equipment including kayak, paddle and safety vest. You will need to bring suitable clothing for the weather conditions and a water bottle. A dry change of clothes and a towel for afterwards will prevent a wet car seat on the way home. Certificate Presentation On the 4th Saturday, the AKC has a ‘member’s social breakfast’, which co-indices with the end of the Saturday Introductory courses. After your final Introductory Course session, participants can get to meet other paddlers and they present you with your certificate. Many participants will form friendships or meet paddling buddies in these courses, so if you don’t have anyone to share the beautiful waters around Perth and the Swan River, don’t worry, you are bound to meet someone at AKC with similar interests, work or family commitments. You can also join in the Beginners Group ( to continue your progress if you are a club member. Cost The cost of the Course for non-members is $80.00. For Members of AKC – The course is FREE ! (Annual membership is $170.00 & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). THEREFORE, If you think Kayaking is something you would enjoy doing over the coming summer months as a member of AKC (where a variety of kayaks, paddles & safety vests, free ongoing training & club meets, free and low-cost activities, access to the clubhouse & facilities 24/7) THEN, join as a member BEFORE registering to do the Introductory Course by contacting Kylie White via [masked] ( phone[masked] (WEEKDAYS) for your promotional code.
