The group participants also the opportunity to interact with others who face similar issues. Participants are able to look at new behaviours through role play, engaging with others, not only receiving valuable feedback and insight from other group members, but also in giving it. The masks that we normally wear are slowly dropped in the group therapy environment. As trust develops in the group we are able to see what we have in common with others and are able to share experiences in an honest and heart opening way, which up until this point may have proved to be difficult. Each session may include a check in, group process and an opportunity for reflection and check out. As the group progresses you may find that your goal also evolves and changes as other things may come to light as a result of what is present in the group. As we work together we become more self-aware and also learn how to overcome unhelpful behavioural patterns and beliefs in order to increase connection, improve the quality of our interpersonal relationships both within and outside the group. These discoveries are made by having the opportunity to experience and provide feedback to each other in the present moment in a genuine, authentic and honest way. This work often leads to deeper relationships with the other group members as we have an increased understanding and acceptance of others and ourselves. As trust is developed, group members are encouraged to try out new ways of behaving within the safety of the group. This can ultimately lead to the opportunity for a much more rich and full experience of ourselves as we experience alternative ways of being, which we may not have tried before and are now able to do so with the support of the group.
