Sahaja yoga defines meditation as a state where you are completely conscious but at the same time completely without thought (thoughtless awareness). In this state we gain a unique perspective and insight into the beauty of our own innate nature. Sahaja Yoga meditation was founded by HH Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi in 1970 and is based on kundalini awakening. Shri Mataji felt that meditation was as essential to our spiritual growth as breathing is to us living. Therefore if meditation is so fundamental, there had to be a simple and accessible method to achieve it that was completely free of charge.
