What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
For Wednesday 10/16/19.... A bi-cultural explanation of nicknames, terms of endearment, idioms, patois(?), lingo, jargon, slang, vernacular, lingo, and on and on. Guys, chicks, guapas, boys, senoritas and on and on. For example: My Mexican Daughter-in-Law calls me: "Suegro" (Father-in-Law)..... and her Dad calls her: "Hija". But in English, we would never call someone those words in conversations with them. Huh? What's all that about? I routinely refer to myself as a "Gringo". Entonces, ¿qué escuchas Hispano-Hablantes cuando escuchas eso? So what do you Hispano-Hablantes 'hear' when you hear that? Let's talk about this, have some laughs and keep one another out of trouble. ******* Eres Hispano-hablante quien quiere practicar Inglés, o mejorar tu Inglais? Are you a Gringo (like me) who wants to be able to speak in whole sentences? And 'get-it-right'? This Meetup is NOT for beginners! You must RSVP. Usted debe confirmar su asistencia La idea aquí es gente que ayuda a la gente, gringos y latinos, cara a cara en grupos pequeños, solo hablando. Todos hemos tenido suficiente escuela, suficiente gramática, suficiente tarea. Lo que necesitamos ahora, es lento, suave, práctica ... con alguien que haga correcciones . ¿Si o no? Estas de acuerdo? En Ingles decimos: "Get it Right". Como se dice "Get it Right" en espanol? The idea here is people-helping-people, Gringos and Latinos, face to face in small groups, just talking. We have all had enough school, enough grammar, enough homework. What we need now, is slow, gentle, practice... with someone making corrections. Si o No? Estas de acuerdo? Elixer Tea House has a private room with a round table for 8 -10, but, overflow or those who want to pair off can move to a separate area. **The Meetup is Free but..... You must buy something from Elixer.
This group is an informal study group. We will primarily (but not solely) practice the topics tackled during the grammar class with Faly. Please join us to practice what we are learning in class in order to reinforce, clarify, and solidify the topic. **We will meet in the cafe in front of the store (or outside if it warms up)**
This class is about reviewing the different grammar topics. The topic will be explained, and students will do oral as well as written practice as needed. The first time you sign for the class, you will need to email faly at [masked] from your personal email so that I can send you a document to print before the class. Some more difficult topics may need be covered with more than one class. Please, if you change your mind after you RSVP, be courteous and change your RSVP so that other students will get in.
