Portsea Pier Snorkel
Portsea Pier! Beautiful sponges and seaweed on the pylons, bright blue nudibranchs, big stingrays and the occasional weedy seadragon too. There is also some great seagrass beds and rocky seaweed areas off to the west of the pier too. Depth: 0 to 7 metres Be careful of the boat traffic here, it can often be quite hectic, particularly in summer. Never swim in the inside area of the pier for this reason. People also like jumping off the pier Low tide: ??? Parking: is very limited. Good luck! It's best to car-pool and arrive in the morning. ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME TO FIND PARKING. Meet: Meet at the land end of the Pier. The "What3Words" mobile map app coordinates are: smartphones.pasture.each (see photo) (this mobile app can give you driving directions and then walking directions to a specific point.) Facilities: Change rooms, with showers are in the park beside the pier. Level: This is suitable for all levels. (there is a sandy entry for beginners) Please snorkel to your comfort level. For tidal times/weather see here: http://tides.willyweather.com.au/vic/melbourne/black-rock.html We might go for a drink or meal after a snorkel, so if you have time, please join us. They are always enjoyable. While this meet-up group is free, a gold coin event donation or yearly contribution is appreciated to cover substantial admin costs. (look out for a yellow money) Safety Disclaimer: Participants should take care, snorkel in conditions they are comfortable with and suitable to their ability level, wear suitable clothing, bring a personal First Aid Kit and act appropriately in their surroundings. It's ok to opt out and watch from shore - we love your company! The organizers of this group cannot accept any liability for any loss or accidents to participants or their belongings on this activity. This group does not have instructors or first-aid holders, we’re just fellow sea-life admirers, like you!. :) All care is taken by organisers, but as events are held in public, with non-members on the beach too, it is difficult to ensure everyone has come back into shore. Please snorkel in pairs for greater safety and an extra set of eyes to spot sea-critters!

What we're about

Like to snorkel? It's always more fun with company... Join us as we explore the piers, rocks and coast of Melbourne and Victoria. We'll have some events planned well ahead and some shorter notice after work dips when the bay is crystal clear. All levels welcome. :) Snorkel site suggestions welcome.

Some ideas: Sandringham Pier; Flinders Pier; Portsea Pier; Point Cooke Beach; The Jawbone, Williamstown; Kilcunda, Gippsland; Cape Patterson, Gippsland; Wilsons Prom....

Please be responsible with your ability level and the conditions as this group does not have instructors or first-aid holders. :)

We encourage conservation of marine life and exploring our marine backyard safely.

Join us on Facebook too! Search for: (Snorkelling Melbourne Victoria)
