  • Creating an Age-friendly community hackathon
Interested in building greater ties across our community and ensuring we keep building upon what we already have here? Then come along and get involved - Friday 2nd June 5:30-7:30pm and Saturday 3rd June 7:30am - 5pm @ iNQ, Little Fletcher Street, Townsville Central (Opposite Hog’s Breath Café). The World Health Organisation’s age-friendly approach is an inclusive and accessible strategy to improve the lives of all people, regardless of age. This hackathon is all about creating an age-friendly community by bringing together: entrepreneurs, creatives, the aged, carers, tech and others to collaborate on and develop diverse ideas, understand perspectives and deliver solutions that benefit our community. We’d like to focus on priority areas of: transport, housing, outdoor spaces and social participation in the age-friendly context, but those aren’t the limits. Prizes will be awarded after solutions are judged on Saturday afternoon and we’d like to feed those ideas into the Advancing Queensland: Age Friendly Community grants program to help make them a reality. The event is free, with light meals and drinks provided throughout the event - we need your input to make this work. Come and join us, bring your energy, ideas and skills together with an open approach and have a great time making our community a better place to live for all. RSVP to [masked].

  • Townsville Startup Weekend 2016 Brainstorming
Townsville Startup Weekend 2016 needs you! Bring your enthusiasm and a passion for innovation: this is our initial planning discussion and it's open to everyone! Last year's Townsville Startup Weekend 2015 (http://townsville.up.co) saw over 50 people creating startups, validating ideas and honing their pitching skills throughout the weekend. We want to give this opportunity to even more people this year and need your help to do it. Townsville will play host to a 'Festival of Ideas' later this year and Startup Weekend will be a key part of these events. For those that came last year, we want to hear from you about your experience about what worked, what you liked and what should be done differently on the Weekend. If you couldn't make it or are just hearing about this for the first time, join us and be a part of this high-energy weekend. No matter what your skill set or background, come along and throw out your best ideas for making Townsville Startup Weekend 2016 awesome! The Meetup is in the proposed venue and last year's Startup Weekend location: JCU's Education Central. Can't make it in person? We'll run a Google Hangout to connect you in or just send your thoughts ahead of time.
