What we're about

The Sunshine Coast Emerging Technology Meetup is a community of engaged community members and business professionals who are looking to both leverage emerging technology to drive innovation in the region and to become educated.

Our purpose is to prepare the Sunshine Coast community for change through awareness and education.

The Sunshine coast has been recognised as one of the top 7 intelligent communities of 2019 sharing the global spotlight with communities from Canada, Taiwan and the United states. The Sunshine Coast was the only Australian city named at this level and is now in the running for the esteemed Intelligent Community of the year award which will be announced in June 2019.

We believe that the major contributing factors leading to our position as an intelligent community, is the ever increasing push from groups, events and projects like ours working together to lead innovation within the region.

This group is primarily educational and all presentations will be delivered without alot of tech talk so if you are new to tech, this group is for you too.

Educational presentations on key Emerging Technology topics delivered by experts in their fields on topics including:

• Artificial Intelligence

• Virtual reality

• Drones

• Blockchain

• Internet Of Things (IoT)

• Cyber Security

• Future Of Work

• Vertical Farming

• Renewable Energy

• + much more

We deliver these outcomes through Monthly Meetups, Expert Emerging Technology Speakers, Networking and Consistent Community Engagement.

We would like to welcome everyone to our meetup with open arms from the Sunshine Coast and Worldwide via our LIVE meetup broadcasts which can be found here:

Machine vision and machine learning in Ag-tech

Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast

Join us for a journey through agriculture technology with Rudi Bartels, fellow organiser of the AgTech Brisbane Meetup. Rudi is an agricultural engineer who has been working in the ag-tech sector for 30 years and with machine vision since 1999. He currently manages machine learning based machine vision projects at the ARC Research Hub for Driving Farming Productivity and Disease Prevention and their current industry partners are in the sugarcane, berry and aquaculture sectors. AI and machine learning are being used in various agricultural applications including: yield prediction algorithms based on weather and historical yield data; image recognition algorithms to detect pest and diseases in plants; and robotics to harvest different types of specialty crops. We are in the midst of exciting times, when agriculture is transforming from the “old” precision agriculture to the era of artificial intelligence. We cannot wait to see you at this months meetup to learn about these developments with you.

The future and impact of drones with Mark Viswa Nathan of Ace Aviation

Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast

This week we wrap our minds around the future of drones, and it is nothing like you thought. Mark Viswa Nathan, CEO at ACE AVIATION will be welcoming us to the world of aerial technology. Drones are about to become a regular sight in our skies and are quickly becoming more than just a hobby. Over the past few years, drones have improved and transformed a variety of industries. They are used to promptly deliver goods, study the environment and scan remote military bases. Drones have been employed in security monitoring, safety inspections, border surveillance and storm tracking. They even have been armed with missiles and bombs in military attacks, protecting the lives of armed-forces personnel that would otherwise be required to enter these combat zones. The industries who will be looking for experts in this field is growing rapidly and the shortage of skills is already understood. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Demystifying Bots

Needs a location

Ever feel like you are talking to a robot? You probably are! This month we demystify the bot. It needs to be known that the rise of the Chatbot will impact heavily on the future of Customer Service roles and communication related jobs. Experts predict that by 2020, 85% of all customer service interactions will be handled without the need for a human agent. Chatbots are bots that are designed to carry on conversations with humans, usually just for fun, and to test the limits of the technology. Chatbots usually have a “personality” similar to a human, and there usually isn’t a goal for the interaction other than to see what the chatbot says. But what about all the other bots ? There are two types both good and bad including: (Goodies) • Chatbots • Crawlers • Transactional bots • Informational bots • Entertainment bots: Art bots, Game bots (Baddies) • Hackers • Spammers • Scrapers • Impersonators Join us at this months emerging tech meetup to learn all about how the above bots are about to change your life.

A presentation, discussion or event on technology, careers and the future.

This is a free meetup. We welcome everyone from all industries, backgrounds and skill levels.
