[DBA] DBATools! The reason to finally start learning and using Powershell
Powershell has been part of Windows for > 10 years and has been part of SQL Server since 2008. In spite of this the adoption among Database Professionals for use in investigating and managing their environments has been low. With the release of the open source DBA Tools module from DBATools.IO, with its 300+ commands, the time has arrived for Database Professionals to embrace PowerShell and upgrade their skills to support the modern Hybrid environment. In this session we will look how to download, install and begin using the power within both this module and Powershell. No prior experience with Powershell required! Speaker: Patrick Flynn Patrick Flynn is a Senior Database Administrator with 10 years experience in large 24 x 7 enterprise environments. He is a certified master for SQL Server and a regular attendee of the PASS Summit. Has presented at SQLSaturday events in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland, Edmonton and Calgary, Oslo and Cambridge

    What we're about

The Sydney SQL Server User Group is a group for Database IT Professionals who are interested in the Microsoft SQL Server technology stack and related technologies.

The group meets monthly and covers topics from the following tracks.

    • DBA: Database Administration

The DBA track covers topics that are primarily of interest to the Database Administrator such as SQL Server architecture and internals, disaster recovery, high-availability, hardware, performance optimization, troubleshooting and administration.

    • DBD: Database Development

The DBD track is for the Database Developer and covers areas such as database design and optimization, indexing, concurrency, Transact-SQL, coding patterns / practices and query optimization.

    • ARC: Architecture

The ARC track is designed to address the needs of Solution / Enterprise Architects. This track is more concerned with solution design, architecture patterns and best practises, scalability, SQL Server technologies, and aligning your business with Microsoft's strategy / vision.

We aim to deliver sessions that are of a higher calibre than paid-for events such as Microsoft TechEd/Ignite. The sessions are technically deep, applicable to your work and full of "lessons from the field". You should walk away from a session with a better understanding of the technology and how it can be applied in your organization.

With that in mind please "spread the word". If you need help getting "managerial approval" to spend 2 hours monthly improving your skillset and ability to deliver better outcomes at work please contact me.

I hope to see at the user group soon!
