Play Theatre Games in the Park
Hello improvisers! Come and have some fun in the beautiful Botanic Gardens, with friendly and amazing people! We play a selection of theatre games, and no acting experience is required. All you need is an open mind and a positive attitude! Afterwards we go for drinks at the Paragon Hotel. For an example of the type of games we play: https://youtu.be/QJU8tVbqmA4?t=14s There is a $3 fee per event, or you can pay a $15 annual membership fee. This covers the cost of the meet-up page and the excess is donated to charity. Conrad FAQ: What if I am on the waitlist but really want to come? The reason we have a 20 person limit is that the Botanic Gardens has a rule that this is the largest group allowed. However.. I have never actually seen the ranger come around and do a headcount. I suspect this rule is only enforced if a group is causing trouble and someone complains. So if you are ok with possibly being asked to leave if the ranger comes, then please feel free to join us :)

What we're about

Let's play theatre games in the park! This is a group for anyone who loves to play improvisation theatre. It is NOT a professional acting workshop - It is open to everyone who wants to enjoy playground games! No experience required!

What do we do in the meetup?

We will play all sorts of games that involve improvisation theatre. Many of them you might now from the popular TV show "Whose Line is it Anyway?". The games we play are different every time, but there are some "classics" that we play very often. Here are some examples of such typical games:

Where & When will the meetups be held?

We meet twice a month: every 2nd Sunday and 4th Sunday of the month. We meet in the Botanic Gardens in Sydney CBD. More precisely, we meet under the big oak tree next to the Cupid Statue, which is close to the Rose Garden Pavilion, on the west side of the park, close to Macquarie Street.

What does it cost?

We charge $3,- per person per event, or you can choose to pay $15,- for an annual membership. We only charge these fees to cover the expenses of running the meetup. Any profit we make is donated to charity :)

I am placed on the waitlist, can I still come?

Unfortunately, the Botanic Gardens do not allow us to hold meetups with more than 20 people, so we really need to maintain a strict limit.

However, it happens very often that even though the list is full we end up with less than 20 people because many people simply don't show up.

Having said that, our rule is as follows: if you are on the waitlist it is no problem if you show up, and if there happen to be less then 20 people, you can join. But, if we do end up with more than 20 people we may have to ask you to leave. In other words, if you are waitlisted we can't guarantee that you can join, and showing up is at your own risk.

I don't have any theatre experience. Can I still join?

Of course! This group is open to everyone who is interested in playing theatre games. In other words, this group does NOT intend to train professional actors. But actors are also welcome as long as you love playing theatre games.

Who can join the meetup? Can I bring my kids?

As the concept of this meetup is to enjoy games, members are expected to be communicative and physically fit. In order to play games fair and square for all attendees, I have to say members have to be 15 years old and up.

Does it require any physical strength?

Not much. In some games such as tag, you may need to run and squat. But basically there will be no huff and puff, and games are never compulsory. Whenever you feel tired or uncomfortable, you can leave the game and take a rest for a while at your own pace.

What should I bring to the meetup? What should I wear?

Just bring yourself with full of curiosity and energy.

Comfortable clothes & shoes easy to move your body are recommended. For example, jeans, T-shirts and sneakers are ideal. Or you may want to wear your favorite gym suit. It is winter season, so you may need a light jacket, water-bottle and sunscreen as well.
