What we're about

Who this group is for

This group is for people in their 30s, 40's and 50's either living in the Illawarra or nearby. Singles, couples and any other definition welcome.

The goal is to provide opportunities to meet like minded, age appropriate people to hang out with and have fun.

The events are member driven, we are happy to have people put up their hands to organise events.

Due to increasing costs of hosting this site, there will be a membership fee of $5 due on 1st September each year (first payment due 1st Sept 2015). Any money collected in excess of the annual fees will be first used to cover organiser out of pocket costs (eg bank fees and maps) and the remainder will be utilised to benefit members in some way. New members can attend 3 meetups before deciding to join or not.

Internet security: This is an open group and comes up near the top in google searches. We recommend you do not use your full name. A first name and initial is better. We don't want it public that you are away at an event for a period of time and your home is unattended.

Personal safety on events: With any event make sure someone knows where you are going, who with, when you expect to be home and have an action plan if you are not. Take the usual common sense approach when meeting members outside of an event - meet in a public place, etc. Do not share your address or phone number on the group messages, do so in private messaging.

Some of the events are very physical in nature. Make sure you have the required level of health and fitness before attending those.

Community Standards

Please make yourself aware of the Meetup Community standards that are also very relevant to our group:

By selecting to RSVP YES and participating in any events, you agree you are ultimately responsible for your own safety, health and well-being during the activity as well as that of any guests you bring. While the organiser will of course take all reasonable care, no responsibility is taken.

Unless otherwise stated, events are not run by professionals, they are a vehicle for a group of responsible adults to make contact and communicate to arrange an event. Do your own research on the activity involved before committing and source your own insurance.

Reasons for removal

Sadly, there are some circumstances where you can be removed from the group. They are outlined here (specifically look at the "no show" reason):

*** Note that you do not need to RSVP no to an event if you have never intended going, it will mean you continue to get email updates. Only RSVP No if you have previously said yes and changed your mind. ****
