    Online event

    GBP 120.00

This is a structured online course, with weekly video recordings: you are welcome to join at any time - you'll be send the video links to catch up on what you missed so far. :) The course began on Monday 30th November and runs for six weeks in total. It will be EASY and it will be FUN - you can enjoy everything we will learn, with any IQ or experience level. :) This course is designed for women who know how the pieces move, and not much else (there is a free ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS tutorial available to watch first, if needed). Each week we will cover a different topic. By the end of the course, you will have increased your confidence, had fun, made friends and improved your game! :) Every week, you'll also learn a little about the wider chess world and culture. Every week there will be a chance to practice with other women at your level, during and after the lesson, and get tips specific to your game. You'll learn in a supportive, interactive environment, where you can ask questions, get individual attention and supervised practice. Zoom recordings of the lessons will be available afterwards, in case you miss a class or would like to review any topic. Every Thursday evening, there will be a dedicated online practice session for attendees of these courses (no additional charge). You will also be able to invite other women in the group to play and chat online. THE PROCEEDS FROM RUNNING THIS COURSE GO TO SUPPORT INITIATIVES AIMED AT BRINGING MORE WOMEN INTO CHESS, AND MAKING CHESS WOMAN-FRIENDLY. Our eventual aim is for women to be half of all chess players. Week 1 Openings: it's your move - now what? We'll also talk territory and chess notation. Week 2 Tactics: about those pins, forks, skewers and revealed checks... What is 'piece activity' and why it's important. Week 3 Strategy: be a woman with a plan! How to find the right plan for your position. Week 4 Checkmates: the aim of the game. How puzzles can help. Week 5 Putting it all together: candidate moves, checklists and keeping it fun. Week 6 General 'rules' and shortcuts: the 'cheat sheet' most club players use. Dipping our toes into the wider world of chess. Looking forward to meeting you soon! :) [If you would like to attend, but cost is a barrier, please send a message. If you can't use PayPal or would like to pay by credit card, please message me for a payment link. If you send a 'friends or family' payment to [masked] that will also donate the PayPal fees. Thank you.]
