Workshop on The Role of IoT/M2M and Big Data in Designing Smart Cities Solutions
The IoT technology is revolutionizing the smart healthcare sector, energy sector, smart cities, smart transportation systems, smart security sectors and e-governance systems by taking connectivity, data mining and communication to the next level. It is predicted that by 2020, about 7.6 billion people will be interconnected via 50 billion devices which is a good indication of worldwide diffusion of things and data connected to the internet via IoT technology. According to business analysts, IoT technology will lead to an economic growth of 4.6 trillion dollars in the Global Public Sector by 2020. To analyze huge data, big data analytics is typically performed using integrated functions such as specialized software tools and applications for predictive analytics, data mining, text mining, data forecasting and data optimization.
Due to unlimited opportunities for IoT entrepreneurship and businesses, a huge number of small and medium sized business owners and entrepreneurs have already welcomed the gold rush for IOT worldwide. Abstract:Cisco has invested with Curtin University and Woodside Energy in the creation of an IoE Innovation Centre at the Bentley Campus. As part of the investment new solutions are being developed and prototyped in order to improve the efficiency of the University and then this can be extended to other industries.

His expertise encompass Internet of Things (IoT), M2M communication, big data analytics, and LTE radio network planning and optimization. His work on the areas of IoT, Smart Cities, Green Cellular Networks and Self-Organising cellular networks have already found their way into ICT standards. He has authored and co-authored numerous international journals and conference papers in the field of IoT, Smart Cities, and LTE/LTE-Advanced wireless networks. He is also serving as a distinguished Visiting Lecturer at Curtin University, Perth, Australia. He delivers lectures about designing of State-of-Art IoT Systems and IoT Applications.
Dr. Yasar holds a Doctorate degree in the field of Telecommunications from University of Leeds, UK. He has participated in various international projects on future wireless networks in collaboration with ZTE Corporation, Texas A&M, Politecnico Di Torino Italy, King’s College London, CTTC Spain and CCSR University of Surrey. In the past, he held various roles at ZTE Corporation, University of Leeds, UK, University of Bedfordshire, UK, Qatar University, QMIC and Texas A&M.
Tom Goerke is the director of Innovation Centres Australia at Cisco. Tom has several years of experience in Mobile Communications and Telecommunications industry. His expertise encompasses radio and data communication, ground network of a mobile satellite system, design and implementation of data services and providing innovative solutions to challenging technical problems. He possesses strong business and technical knowledge and he is extremely thorough and practical in evaluating, and creating business development plans, and offering clear, concise models and methods for applying the most cost-effective state-of-art technologies to meet specific and realistic business demands. In the past, he held various roles at Cisco Systems, THISS Technologies, Goerke Enterprises, DSpace Pty. Ltd., ICO Global Communications and Inmarsat.
