What we're about

Dragon boat racing is one of the fastest growing sports in Australia today. It attracts a wide range of people from different cultural backgrounds and age groups with different levels of fitness, making it one of the most diverse sports available in Australia today.

The Yarra River Dragons, one of the largest clubs in Melbourne. We compete in regattas, championships locally, regionally and overseas and while we train hard and are competitive we are also a social, fun and an easy-going bunch!

You will find us training around Victoria Harbour, but we also like to explore Melbourne with social events like dinners, trivia nights, weekends away and other events.

We are looking for like-minded, sociable people who like the idea of being involved in a competitive sporting club. People who like to train hard to achieve the teams goals, who enjoy training in the gym and following a strength training program to complement the on water activities and who like the outdoors and have a sense of adventure. It doesn't matter if you don't have any experience of the sport as we will be there to help train you up!

While we are a social club our real focus is being as fast as we possibly can. So for those members who would like to compete with the YRDs, there is the expectation that you can train with the team a few times per week and also workout in the gym (a gym program is provided). Don't let that scare you - we actually hope that it excites you! we just like to set expectations to our new members - we were all newbies at one stage
