Larapinta Trail - one of the top 20 treks in the world
Debbie, Carolyn and Michelle hiked 14 days on this spectacular 223km trail carrying all their gear. Come along and hear about their fantastic journey on this trail and all about the planning - what gear to take, organising food drops etc. Larapinta trail is situated in Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park, in the red centre of Australia, it runs from Alice Springs (eastern end) to Mount Sonder (western end). The trail is divided into 12 sections and can be walked in either direction. Each section can be done in one day, but many people choose to take a few days longer as there are so many highlights. The trail includes some of the world's most ancient metamorphic and igneous rock and nearly 600 species of rare flora. There are links to other walking tracks in the West MacDonnell National Park, so you can take side trips to explore further. Each section has vehicle access, some 4WD only, providing many options for supported walkers, or joining and leaving the trail.
