What we’re about
This Meditation is now changed to be a meditation in your own space, not in a gathering. It is a time for quiet meditation and inquiry. Of course every one is different, and while this is where we start, the point is to discover meditation, not to adopt some old practice, or repeat a method. I am wondering whether the name should be changed to, Meditation Alone.
I suggest the meditation be quiet, self-reflection for about 1/2 to 1 hour. It is not to be guided or ritual meditation, that is, there is no commentary, no music, no method, no chanting, no focus, no symbolism, none of that. The only instruction is sitting quietly with attentiveness, with awareness, and learning. It is meditation, sitting quietly, relaxed, listening, contemplating, aware of the sitters condition, his/her distractions, the disturbances, and being attentive, aware of all that, not reacting. It might be difficult for some people. Maybe people know something about meditation and have exercises, expectations, gurus, reasons, and techniques, but these are not for this meditation. You may want to inquire and discover the meditation, but the main point is a stillness, and a communion with the world at large, free from self interest. Even if you have your own preferences for what you think is meditation, as much as possible, this Meditation Friends, is to be serious meditation with mindfulness, and self observation and inquiry, and not to have entertainments or accompaniments.
