Interested in backcountry skiing or splitboarding, but not sure how to get started? Join us for an introduction to uphill travel (telemark, AT, and splitboard) to kick off our series of winter clinics and trips. We will cover everything you need to know to get started. The presentation will cover safety, fitness, gear and planning, and will be a mix of lecture, Q&A, and informal discussion of upcoming ski committee trips. What is backcountry skiing and snowboarding? How to get started? Why is Avalanche Education important and where to find it? What gear will you need? Learn how to safely transition from lift serviced riding, to self-powered uphill travel and riding in and out of ski area boundaries. Most uphill trips will be suited to participants who can ski/ride intermediate to advanced trails (blue square and black diamond). No skiing/boarding will be required at this intro event!
