What we're about
This group encourages all Asian Australians to get together and create a support group on what it means to be an Asian Australian.
The term Asian Australian is rarely used in Australia and is more commonly found in America where Asians do not identify themselves as just being a typical typecast Asian but rather an integrated cross mix of their Asian heritage and their Western style upbringing.
You are not entirely Asian like your parents but you are not entirely the typical 'white' Australian you see on Home and Away.
You're a new breed of rising Asians who are making up the very fabric of our multicultural society but yet there is not a great platform where Asian Australians can come together to 'voice' issues we feel close to heart. Issues that affect us everyday.
Around one in four Asian Australians reported personally being discriminated against because they’re Asian when applying for jobs and trying to rent or buy housing, according to a new poll.
Immigrant Asian Australians were also much less likely to report multiple forms of individual discrimination, including violence and sexual harassment, than their counterparts born in the Australia or New Zealand.
EVERYONE is welcome to join this group, however the main theme and discussion in this group is raising awareness of Asian Australian voices.
And ultimately, what does it mean to be an Asian Australian?
I hope we can create meetups to band together all Asian Australians in Sydney so we can come together to recognise this unique identify we have.
