Jeanette Winterson - "The Passion"
Henri had a passion for Napoleon and Napoleon had a passion for chicken. From Boulogne to Moscow Henri butchered for his Emperor and never killed a single man. Meanwhile, in Venice, the city of chance and disguises, Villanelle was born with the webbed feet of her boatman father – but in the casinos she gambled her heart and lost. As the soldier-chef’s love for Napoleon turns to hate he finds the Venetian beauty, and together they flee to the canals of darkness. In her unique and mesmerizing voice, Winterson blends reality with fantasy, dream, and imagination to weave a hypnotic tale with stunning effects.

    What we're about

We love reading! Some of us come along every month, others just for books they are interested in. Emails come out to announce the upcoming bookclubs, and we try to remember to send a reminder a few days before we meet. Books are suggested by the group, usually three at a time, at the end of the meetings, so come prepared to share yours! The conversation might start with the book but drifts on to other things as well. We meet once a month, generally the third Wednesday of the month. Meeting at a pub gives everyone the opportunity to eat and drink or not as they wish. We often get 15 or 20 people, so come along ready to chat in small groups around the table!
