Monthly Bookclub: Would you rather read a story you can relate to or escape to?

What we'll do

This will be our 64th monthly book club, where instead of reading a particular book, we pick a literary themed question, with a focus on the books that have informed and inspired us.

In September, we'll be asking, “Would you rather read a story you can relate to or escape into?"

Our meetings are friendly and informal, usually starting with a general catch up before we go around the table to share our thoughts on the topic, with plenty of diversions and interesting book recommendations, over a meal and a glass of wine. You do not have to read a particular book for our monthly bookclubs, but the topic may inspire you to read something new or re-read an old favorite. You can bring along your book if you'd like, but just telling us the title is fine too. At the end of the evening, we'll suggest ideas and vote to determine the question for next month.

*No show policy applies* Please remember to change your RSVP if you can no longer attend. It's absolutely fine to change your RSVP for any reason up until the event starts, and you don't need to give a reason when changing your RSVP, however no shows are considered inconsiderate and will result in your removal from the group. No shows mean that people on the waiting list miss out, your host has to keep checking and updating the event comments in case people are lost instead of joining the conversation, or might mean the group waits to order dinner or start our round the table discussion, or that we hold tables and chairs in busy venues, all of which we are happy to do for those running a little late or lost, but shouldn't have to do for those not planning to attend. It's also unfair for our great venues, who might turn people away and then see a couple of empty spots at our table.

*Meet up fees* To help cover meet up fees, members can choose to give a $2 donation at the monthly book clubs (not at any of our other events).
