We are a group of women who believe in the value of making friends as we adapt to and enjoy the changes in our lives.
Please take the time to read the information below.
Your application will not be accepted if you do not meet the requirements. Many of these are to protect you and other members from predators, scammers and net-workers.
THIS GROUP SUITS women:
* who are over 55
* retired or semi-retired
* who may be single, widowed, divorced, separated
* live north of the river, or are willing to travel.
THE GROUP AIMS to provide a safe place for women over 55 who wish to socialise with other like-minded ladies.
* We encourage enjoyable conversations and company.
* Provide our members with opportunities to meet other women and make new friends.
* Encourage members to share their interests.
* Support members, when ready, to use the Meetup platform to share their interests by organising an event.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR ACTIVE MEMBERS, that is, women who intend to use the group. We want you to participate, not simply observe.
EVENTS
We do not have a Main Organiser whose responsibility it is to provide you with an active and varied social life. The group is managed by a committee of members and all members have a shared responsibility for attending events and enjoying themselves!
RANGE OF EVENTS:
Because our main Coffee & Chat is every Friday, this allows us to see each other frequently where friendships develop naturally.
Some other smaller events may be walks, picnics, coffees, dinners, lunches, special events, movies, theatre, Book Club, games and craft activities etc.
EXPECTATIONS:
* In joining the group please understand that every member in this group has the right to be treated with courtesy and respect.
* Please RSVP only when you know you can attend an event. If you change your RSVP, ensure this happens before the cut off time (usually 1 day before) and a message to the event organiser is appreciated. If you change your RSVP after the RSVP's close and before an event begins this will be recorded in Meetup as a 'No Show'. We do understand that unexpected events can occasionally occur. We consider 3 'No Shows' sufficient leeway and will review your membership if you exceed the 3.
‘No Shows' have an impact on a number of people:
* The Hostess needs to confirm numbers with the venue the day before. It is embarrassing if the numbers are less than the booking.
* The venue needs to plan for catering and staff and when people do not turn up it is a loss of business to them and they may be reluctant to take a booking from us in the future.
* Other members - When you pull out at the last minute it disappoints others who may be waitlisted, who may not be able to take advantage of this cancellation.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT
1. PHOTOGRAPH
* Please upload a recent FULL FACE FRONTAL photo ie a passport photo with a smile! This allows for easy identification when you arrive at an event and the organiser/host is able to introduce you.
* The photograph should have only you in the picture (NO pets, family or friends). Please NO hats, caps or sunglasses to obscure your face.
2. NAME (Very Important!!!!)
* Apply using your First name and first letter of your surname so we can distinguish you from other members with the same or a similar First name. Pseudonyms will not be accepted.
3. SHORT BIOGRAPHY
* In your application, write a short biography of yourself of no more than 50 words or 250 characters, just as an introduction to the group. You might wish to include your background, family, interests or anything that identifies your uniqueness.
4. A COMMITMENT TO ATTEND TWO (2) EVENTS WITHIN 6 WEEKS OF APPLICATION
* We ask you to come along to 2 events in the first 6 weeks after your application to see whether this group is for you.
* Once you are happy with the group we confirm your membership by asking you to fill in a membership form and to pay a fee. The fee is then payable at the beginning of subsequent calendar years. This covers the cost of fees to Meetup and entitles every member to be an Organiser, if they so wish.
